I design and make jewelry using sterling silver and quality gemstones. I choose all the gemstones myself and I try to ensure that all the stones I use are natural.
I never use stones that are irradiated. I believe this negatively affects the energy of the stone. It has been shocking and sad for me to learn how commonplace it is to irradiate or dye or heat-treat natural stones. It’s become so commonplace that I’ve occasionally had to accept heat-treated stones. I comfort myself with the reminder that heat is a natural process and it doesn’t fundamentally alter the stone. I will always tell you when I know or suspect that this is the case.
I also never use dyed stones. What’s the point? I’d rather have beautiful pale lavender amethyst, than some artificially deep shade of purple.
The biggest problem I have is that I am not a gemologist or geologist and so I have to trust my suppliers, who in turn usually have to trust theirs. I believe that most people are honest, and thus believe in the accuracy of the description of my stones as natural. If you ever have a reason to believe you are getting anything less, I will happily take a return and refund your money. And if you know something I don’t, I’d be happy to know about it.
